Jawaharlal Nehru Daily Market

Kancheepuram Jawaharlal Nehru market runs on an old building complex constructed almost 80 years ago near the Senkazhunir Odai Veedi.

Around 90 shops are presently appearing in the market. Almost all the shops are closed shops with rolling shutters. The shops sell vegetables, fruits, provision goods. etc. There is a temple situated inside the market complex. There are also around 15 shops selling meat and fish products in the rear side of the market.

Project Goals

Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation is intending to redevelop the old market under the KNMT scheme into a new market complex with RCC roofed closed shops and commercial spaces and other facilities as per the standards. The project focuses on providing all the infrastructure facilities with footpaths, loading and unloading areas, parking facilities, toilet facilities, firefighting, CCTV and other amenities.
